The Art of the Perfect Selfie: Venus Concept’s Ultimate Guide

Selfies are everywhere.

There is a hit dance song about them by the Chainsmokers. A book full of Kim Kardashian’s. And your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds are filled with them.

The need to present your best self is evident in the popular culture behaviour of sharing selfies. In fact, the awareness of looking and feeling your best over social media drives demand for patients seeking enhancements andtreatments, according to one in three facial plastic surgeons.

A new study conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) found a significant shift in how social media now impacts a patient’s awareness of their appearance. Constant photo sharing can result in holding a magnifying glass to your outward (particularly, your facial) appearance. Thirteen percent of AAFPRS members found that this major trend of social media photo posting (and resulting scrutiny) was a motivating factor for patients in their practices.

Edward Farrior, MD, President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is quoted extensively on the trend. “These images are often the first impressions young people put out there to prospective friends, romantic interests and employers and our patients want to put their best face forward,” he says.

Particularly keen to seek treatments such as facial plastic surgery or injectables is the “under 30” set, which showed a 58% increase in undergoing these treatments in 2013. But drastic measures like plastic surgery are not the only answer to give your look a boost. The study also noted that 39% of AAFPRS members observed an increase in demand for non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Treatments like the Venus Swan, Venus Freeze, and Venus Legacy offer the ability to attain visible results without having to go under the knife.

“The top five things most patients are most concerned with are results, cost, recovery, pain and scars,” says Dr. Farrior. The range of Venus Treatments address all of these concerns without requiring surgery.

With no downtime required, the quick and painless treatments by Venus Concept provide effective results by building collagen and stimulating blood flow to provide a youthful fullness and glow. With patented, deep-penetrating technology and a straightforward application, patients are able to be in-and-out of a clinic in as little as a lunch hour.
