The main difference between the two processes is that FUT procedures use a scalpel to surgically remove a strip of hair from the back of the scalp. In comparison, typical FUE procedures extract hair follicles directly from the scalp in their naturally-occurring groups, generally containing one to three hairs, without having to remove a strip from the scalp. The grafts are sorted by the number of hairs they each contain so that when they are implanted, a natural feathered appearance is obtained. The grafts are also implanted at the natural angle that they would grow in the scalp.
